GUARDIANS ORGANIZATION PLAYERS
Gabriel Arias (RF-SS, Magallanes): combined 3-for-15, 5 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI. 2 BB, 1 HBP, 4 K, 2 Outfield Assists - Arias continued to mirror the struggles of his new club, who has started the Round Robin with a 2-5 record, last week. Even the highlight of his week, a three-run homer in the bottom of the first on Thursday, barely put a dent in the ten-run lead the Navegantes had spotted Lara in the top of the frame. One positive, however, was ability to get home once he got on the basepaths, scoring on five of his six trips to the bases - including twice in Sunday’s 10-0 rout of Aragua. On the defensive front, Arias played the last three games in right field - with an outfield assist in both Friday and Saturday’s contests - after starting the new year at shortstop on Thursday.
Dayan Frias (SS, Monteria): combined 3-for-9, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 SB, 1 E - Speaking of Round Robins, Colombia’s has started as well and Frias is continuing to contribute to the Vaqueros as they move on to the second season. While Friday’s postseason opener (double and an RBI single) was the better of his performances in the playoffs so far in an individual sense, his top of the ninth inning (leadoff single and later steal of third base) on Saturday led to him scoring the first of three Monteria runs in a rally that ultimately led to the Vaqueros’ first victory of the Round Robin.
Johnathan Rodriguez (LF-DH, Carolina): combined 2-for-12, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 5 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K, 1 SB - Rodriguez, on the other hand, spent last week finishing up his regular season. After surrounding the New Year’s break with a pair of hitless contests (in which he still reached thrice on two walks and an HBP), he finished the campaign strong with a double in each of his least two games for this season’s edition of the Gigantes. As Carolina finished dead last in the LBPRC, the continuation of Rodriguez’s season now awaits word of whether he will be picked up as a refuerzo by a playoff qualifier.
