Cleveland Guardians Spring Training Prospect Report 2/27/25
Upper level reserves and one lower level prospect have solid day
Scoreboard
Chicago White Sox 4, Cleveland Guardians 2
Starter
Juan Brito (DH): 0-2, K - Still no hits this spring in three games and three strikeouts. It’s only seven plate appearances, so nothing to worry about. But you certainly want to see some more productive at bats.
Will Wilson (3B): 1-2, RBI - Wilson was a minor league Rule 5 selection of the Guardians this winter, a former first rounder with major hit tool issues and a questionable SS glove. He singled off Justin Dunn, a former Mets first rounder who is now 29 and has over 100 major league innings.
Reserves
Micah Pries (LF): 1-2, 2B - Pries’ double came off former White Sox first rounder and oft-injured Peyton Pallette. Good hit, but Pallette hasn’t progressed yet. He did play left field, which is notable since CJ Kayfus should have a chance to claim Triple-A 1B this year and Pries will be squeezed out there, and the OF will be crowded between DeLauter, Rodriguez and Halpin.
Joe Lampe (RF): 1-1, 2B - Lampe socked a 101 MPH double off Jonathan Heasley, who has 130 innings of MLB experience. Lampe got off to a good start in 2024 but tailed off. There is something there and Lampe has speed and defense, so we’ll see if he can put together a full 2025 season.
Jacob Cozart (C): 1-2, 2B - Only 81 off the bat, Cozart doubled off former Cleveland reliever James Karinchak.
Magnus Ellerts (RP): 0.1 - Ellerts needed one pitch to get an out.
Zach Jacobs (RP): 1.1IP, K - Really impressive outing for Jacobs, getting four whiffs on eight swings. He retired MLBers Austin Slater and Josh Rojas too, topping out at 93 with his sinker.
Andrew Misiaszek (RP): 2IP, H, 2K - Solid results for Misiasszek, but he was 90-92 and really only faced Nick Maton as the only MLBer in his outing.
Tommy Mace (RP): 0.1 IP, K - Was 93-95 striking out Dominic Fletcher, which velo wise continues to be an improvement from his normal 90-92, t94, but is it up due to short bursts?
CJ Kayfus (1B): 0-1
Petey Halpin (CF): 0-1
Angel Genao (SS): 0-1, K
Jake Anchia (DH): 0-1
Travis Bazzana (2B): 0-2
