Cleveland Guardians spring training minor league recap 3/10/23
Will Brennan only Guardians batter who could handle Brandon Woodruff's nasty stuff.
Milwaukee Brewers 12, Cleveland Guardians 3
Will Brennan (LF): 2-3, 2B, RBI - Brennan had the lone hit off of Milwaukee co-ace Brandon Woodruff to drive in a run with a single. He later had a ground rule double off of ‘22 Brewers relief rookie Peter Strzelecki.
David Fry (3B): 1-1, HR - Fry’s homer came in the eighth off of major league reliever Jake Cousins.
Micah Pries (1B): 1-3 - Pries worked a single off of tough lefty reliever and former Cleveland Rule 5 pick, Hoby Milner.
Davis Sharpe (RP): 0.2IP, K - We’ve seen Sharpe a few times this spring on the traveling extras roster and he’s been solid. They are clearly interested in seeing what he can do.
Others prospects of note
Mason Hickman (RP): 0.2IP, 2H, 3ER, 3BB, K - It was not Mason Hickman’s day unfortunately. Though his lone strikeout did come against big time Brewers prospect Joey Wiemer.
Jose Tena (PH-DH): 0-0, BB - A walk in his lone at bat is not what you might expect to see from Tena.
Juan Brito (2B): 0-1 - Brito actually made an out.
Korey Holland (LF): 0-1 - First action Holland has seen in a big league camp game this spring and he struck out.
Jorge Burgos (RF): 0-1 - First we’ve seen Burgos in a big league game this spring as well.
Isaiah Greene (CF): 0-2, K - Greene got two at bats while playing center but struck out in one of them in his first big league look this spring.
Brayan Rocchio (SS): 0-3
Yordys Valdes (SS): 0-1
Bryan Lavastida (C): 0-1 -Nobody seems to be running away with this backup catcher gig. Interesting Naylor was optioned to Triple-A while Lavastida is still up, but Naylor is also out for a week or so with WBC action.
Angel Martinez (3B): 0-2, K - Martinez was part of a young interesting infield lineup between he, Rocchio, Freeman and Pries but he had a tough day vs. Brandon Woodruff. But, then again, so did everyone else besides Will Brennan.
