GUARDIANS PROSPECTS
Chase DeLauter (DH, Surprise): 1-3, 3BB, 2 SB - The biggest thing of note here is the two steals. I’ve talked plenty about how DeLauter hits the ball hard despite his unconventional swing. The walks are also inconsequential due to the lack of quality pitching in the AFL and minors (the data shows the walks were from non-competitive pitches that didn’t require serious discipline). But the steals are worth talking about because of DeLauter’s foot and hamstring issues. They’ve been very cautious only letting him DH to get reps and not playing the field. But letting him test his legs out stealing is what you would like to be an encouraging sign of the health of his feet/hamstring. And he was successful twice. I’m not going to trust it as a long term side, but it’s a sign of where he’s at right now and maybe taking some of the restrictions off. But it’s hard to trust his long term health until he proves otherwise over the course of a full season.
Milan Tolentino (SS, Surprise): 1-5, BB, 2K, SB - Tolentino got a hit, which is an improvement for him and he did reach base twice. But he’s having a rough AFL campaign results wise. He hit two balls fairly hard (90s) but not much to show. Hard to put a ton of stock into anything in this one.
Allan Hernandez (RP, Surprise): 1.1 IP, H, BB, 2K - Hernandez got six whiffs and was sitting 96-97. It was his high-80s cutter that got three whiffs. Hernandez is also getting 17-18 IVB on his fastball (20 is in the elite range), so that’s notable. Hernandez is Rule 5 eligible and some of this data makes me think he’s quite interesting but I just don’t see him having enough reliability to be hid in a MLB bullpen quite yet to be worried or added.
Alaska Abney (RP, Surprise): 0.2IP, H, - Nine pitch outing for three batters, two outs and a hit for Abney. No whiffs. Nothing interesting here and I continue to feel like the won’t roster him at the end of this month.
Aaron Bracho (LF, La Guaria): 1-1, R - Ironically Bracho took over for Yasiel Puig in LF late. He did get a hit and I’ve never heard or see Bracho play outfield stateside for Cleveland. It doesn’t matter because I believe he’s a minor league free agent and there’s no sense for Cleveland to bring Bracho back unless they just need the body.
