REHAB
Juan Brito (RF, ACL Guardians): 2-for-4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBIs, HBP, CS - Brito put together his first performance where he looked like Juan Brito again on Thursday with a two-hit day including his first homerun in this rehab stint. He was tasked with nine innings in the outfield for the first time in the ACL and so far so good.
Michael Kennedy (SP, ACL Guardians): 1.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BBs, 2 Ks, E1T, E1T FPO - The same could not be said for southpaw Michael Kennedy, who struggled through his second rehab appearance. A pair of errors himself in less than two innings did not help his own cause and eight total baserunners in that time put the ACL Angels up 5-0 in the second.
HIGHLIGHTS
Chase DeLauter (DH, Columbus): 1-4, HR, 2 RBI - DeLauter crushed another homer 391 feet and 103 off the bat. He’s crushing it in June so far and is hitting lefties, all in a small sample size so far. If he keeps this up, there still should be reason to see him in July…
Dayan Frias (3B, Akron): 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2K - Frias has been OK this year, hot at times but no consistency overall. There’s been power and strikeouts plenty.
Guy Lipscomb (LF, Akron): 2-4, HR, RBI, K - Lipscomb has also had a decent year but shows little power (fourth homer), but does have the skills of a fourth outfielder.
Juan Benjamin (DH, Lake County): 2-5, HR, 3 RBI 2K - Benjamin was also sort of feast or famine but he did hit his first homer of the year and has had some decent moments.
Robert Arias (CF, ACL Guardians): 3-for-5, 2B, 3 RBIs, OF assist - To go along with a three-hit day, Arias also added an outfield assist from center on Thursday. He started the scoring in the third with a two-run double and he gave the ACL Guardians the lead with another RBI in the fourth. The on-base streak came to a close in his last game, however he is back on track after this performance.
Steven Cruz (DH, DSL Goryl): 2-for-4, R, 2B, 4 RBIs, SF - The 18-year-old switch hitter Steven Cruz had three different at-bats that resulted in runs scored and a team-high four RBIs on the day. He recorded a run-scoring single in the fourth, two-run double in the fifth and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Cruz has driven in nine runs in the first seven games played in the DSL season.
Ricardo Romero (LF, DSL Goryl): 3-for-4, 3 R, 2B, 3 RBIs - Romero had a three-hit day and continued his quality start to 2025 as a 17-year-old. His two RBI double capped off a seven-run top of the fourth after the team fell behind early. He also had a run-scoring single during the nine-run sixth inning. All three of those runs batted in came with two outs in the inning and the team combined for 11-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Romero’s five doubles have been a highlight of his month so far.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Franco Aleman (RP, Columbus): IP, H, ER, 2BB, K - Aleman struggled to throw strikes in this one. Cleveland may have a need in the bullpen soon but Aleman has been struggled trying to find consistency lately, so that might be a tough call.
Cooper Ingle (DH, Akron): 2-4, RBI, 2K - A 2K game for Ingle is more rare than a 2-hit game, but he did both here with no real pop. He should see Triple-A not too far in the future.
Rodney Boone (SP, Akron): 5.2IP, 4H, 2ER, 8K - A nice effort from Boone who has had good numbers at Double-A this year despite only topping out at 90-91.
Jonah Advincula (LF-CF, Lake County): 2-5 - Advincula has been good, not great. But good enough where he probably should be in Akron so Tommy Hawke gets some time in Lake County.
Jacob Cozart (C, Lake County): 1-3, 2BB - Not a sexy performance for Cozart but he’s struggled offensively in pro ball, so two walks and he drove some balls pretty hard. So you’ll take that from Cozart to show some improvement.
Jacob Zibin (SP, Lynchburg): 3IP, 2H, 2K - A short outing for Zibin but one of his better ones control wise in his brief (healthy) career so far.
Sean Matson (SP, Lynchburg): 4IP, 3H, 2BB,5K - Matson has been dominant enough at this point with his age and background where we need to see him in High-A.
Jose Ramirez (RP, ACL Guardians): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BBs, K - The 20-year-old right-hander helped the team escape from a four-run second and twirled a 1-2-3 third to halt the ACL Angels offense for a time.
Tyler Naquin (RP, ACL Guardians): H (1), 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BBs, K - Keeping an eye on our old friend Naquin, he looked like a suitable reliever in this one with a 1-2-3 fourth inning - his third scoreless frame of the season (nine appearances).
Alejandro Blasco (LF, DSL Mendoza): 1-for-4, R, 2B, 2 RBIs - Blasco’s double in the bottom of the second took the DSL Mendoza squad from losing to winning after two runs came across to score. In five of the six games where Blasco has a hit, he has also driven in runs.
Pablo Arosemena (1B, DSL Mendoza): 1-for-4, RBI, E3T, 2 DPs - Arosemena tried to lead a late charge in extra innings with an RBI single, but it was not enough. Despite his efforts, the third-year man is batting .353 in six games played.
Osmar Torrealba (RF, DSL Goryl): 1-for-1, 3 R, RBI, 4 BBs, SB - In just his second game of the year, the left-handed swinging Torrealba reached base five times with the help of patience at the plate for four walks. His lone hit of the day came with the bases loaded to score a run.
Wuinder Torres (C, DSL Goryl): 2-for-5, 2 R, 2B, 3 RBIs - Torres added three more to his RBI total on the year (11) with a multi-hit effort on Thursday. Each of his hits scored at least one run, with a double in the fourth scoring two.
Santiago Ustariz (1B, DSL Goryl): 2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBIs, BB, E3F, 3 DP - Offensively, Ustariz reached base three times with a pair of singles and a walk, but on defense he was charged with an error, one of four in the game for the team that led to all four opposing runs scored.
Javier Abreu (RP, DSL Goryl): W (1-0), 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BBs, 2 Ks - Abreu was effective in keeping the ball on the ground to work around traffic on the basepaths via two hits and two walks. He entered the game with the bases loaded, but an error allowed all three inherited runners to score before he recorded an out.
DeLauter hammers an 84 mph changeup middle-middle. Not too impressed. The main thing is he's healthy and playing every day.
