HIGHLIGHTS
Ryan Webb (SP, Akron): W (2-6), 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R (earned), 1 BB, 11 K, 1 HR allowed - While Webb has been a strikeout machine all season (73:32 K:BB ratio in 74 innings entering Sunday), he took it to another level last evening against the punchout-prone Pirate prospects to become the thief Akron starter in a row to record double-digit strikeouts.
Yordys Valdes (2B, Akron): 2-3, 1 R, 1 3B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K - Valdes has improved his slash line from .227/.359/.253 to .249/.340/.292 over the course of his now two-week-old ten-game on-base streak
Aaron Bracho (1B, Akron): 3-5, 1 R - Bracho backed up a two-hit Friday night with this three-hit Sunday to finish up an eight-base weekend that is hopefully the springboard for a resurgence as the season gets into its second half.
Angel Genao (3B, Lake County): 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 CS - Genao wrapped up his first month of High-A ball with a .313/.368/.438 slash line after his second three-hit performance of the week.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Ray Delgado (2B, Columbus): 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI. 2 K - Surprisingly, no Clippers had a multi-hit performance in Sunday’s slugfest. That said, the biggest hit in terms of raw run production was Delgado’s three-run homer in the fourth inning. (101.5 MPH, 398 feet).
Kyle Manzardo (1B, Columbus): 1-2, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 1 K - A frame later, Manzardo evened the score at six apiece on his own solo shot (95.5 MPH, 398 feet to straightaway center), part of a day on which he reached four times to extend his on-base streak to twelve games.
Johnathan Rodriguez (LF, Columbus): 1-4, 3 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 SB - Another day, another absolute J-Bomb from J-Rod. While his seventh-inning two-run blast - which brought his season RBI total to an even 50 - “only” came off his bat at 110.6 MPH (down from 111.1 on Saturday night), he bested his 431-foot Saturday distance by eight feet!
Peter Strzelecki (Columbus): 1.1 IP, 1 HBP, 4 K - Strzelecki got all four of his Sunday outs via strikeout to wrap up a chaotic day for the Clipper staff. Such a performance is unlikely to have much of an influence on him getting a callup, however, as all five of his 2024 options have been used (insert shameless plug for NYIC’s Rosters page here).
Kahlil Watson (CF, Akron): 1-5, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 K - Watson’s three-run blast in the sixth wrapped up the RubberDuck scoring and seemingly put the game out of the Curve’s reach.
Petey Halpin (RF, Akron): 1-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K - Halpin’s sixth-inning RBI double extended his on-base streak to ten games.
Jack Leftwich (RP, Akron): S (6), 0.1 IP, perfect, 1 K - While Leftwich only needed six pitches to earn his sixth save of the season, those pitches were monumental to the Mallards of Main Street as SS Dayan Frias’ fielding miscue and RP Jordan Jones’ subsequent pitching woes had rendered a seemingly invincible lead very dubious.
Jorge Burgos (RF, Lake County): 2-5, 1 R, 2 K - Burgos’s productive plate appearance streak now stands at twelve games following this multi-hit effort,
Cooper Ingle (C, Lake County): 1-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K - Speaking of streaks, Ingle is on a couple of big ones - namely, an eight-game hitting streak and 14-game on-base streak
Jay Driver (RP, Lake County): 1 IP, perfect- Not to be outdone, Driver has gone 18 outings (22 innings) without allowing an earned run!
Wuilfredo Antunez (RF, Lynchburg): 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 K - Antunez’s two-run blast in the top of the first put the Hillcats on top early and they never looked back.
Esteban Gonzalez (LF, Lynchburg): 1-5, 1 2B - Gonzalez led off the fifth with a double to bring his hitting streak into double digits.
Jack Jasiak (RP, Lynchburg): W (6-3), 4 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 WP, 1 K - Jasiak rebounded nicely from allowing five runs in only two-thirds of an inning in the series opener with four scoreless frames in the finale.
Kendeglys Virguez (RP, Lynchburg): S (1), 2 IP, 1 H, 1 K - Virguez has now started his non-complex career with 4.1 scoreless innings after wrapping up the week with a pair of dominant frames.
