Build & Background
Hawke is an undersized, scrappy type build-outfielder. He’s all of 5’8 and has a small build overall. With his age and frame, he’s not very projectabe, but could add a little strength in pro ball. Very gritty, high motor, baseball-IQ like demeanor and player between the lines. Not drafted out of high school and was a draft-eligible sophomore.Â
What Hawke Does Well
On the bases and in the field is where Hawke impacts the game. He has a chance to be an above average defender in center thanks to his speed and motor. He has more than enough arm for center and it should play in right field too. Hawke has plus speed, busting it down the line and should be a base stealing threat in the pros. He had a good idea of the strike zone in college, walking as much as he struck out. He make a good amount of contact, too.

Where Hawke Needs to Improve
The reason Hawke gets a 45 on the hit tool instead of a possible 50 is low contact quality and EVs as well as running a 15% strikeout rate in college. That level of strikeout rate could jump a little as a pro, which would further negate his hit tool where he doesn’t have the power to offset the strikeouts. Added strength probably won’t really add real impact to his power, although getting to 40 power was something Steven Kwan got to, so I guess you can’t completely rule it out based on the similar sizes. But Hawke does just about everything else well aside from contact quality and he could cut down on the strikeouts given his profile.

Key Stats
Two of Hawke’s seven homers last year in college came in back to back CWS games against Alabama, jumping fastballs and pulling them to right field. If that’s something he can show more of in the pros, it makes his profile a bit more interesting.
Intangibles
The spark plug cliche is very true of the undersized Hawke. He plays hard and with high energy, and shows emotion on the field that fired his teammates up at Wake Forest. He’s a true dirt bag type player that should get the most out of his skills and tools and puts in the effort, Seemed to be a well liked teammate in school.

Future
Based on the low end EVs Hawke showed in college, his hit tool in the pros is likely going to hold him back from a high impact everyday role. But he should be able to make enough contact to get on the field as a backup and should be able to handle all three outfield spots and contribute on the bases, which gives him a decent floor of a fourth or fifth outfield type.
